Summer Reading Programs

Here is a list of the Summer Reading Programs for your whole family!

American Girl :

Go here: http://www.americangirl.com/reading/ .  This program started May 1st and will run through August 26th and is for girls ages 8 – 12.  The wonderful thing about this reading program is that they have partnered up with Save the Children charity where $1 of every book purchased through the American Girl website goes to Save the Children’s U.S. Literacy Program!

Barnes and Noble:

Go here: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/summer-reading/379003570/ and print off your Reading Journal from Barnes and Noble, read 8 books and tell which books you would recommend to whom and select a FREE book from the list in the Reading Journal!  Bring the completed journal to your local Barnes and Noble store by September 3, 2013.

Blount County Public Library:

Children’s Summer Reading Program: “Dig Into Reading”: Kick-off is on June 1st – register your child at the Children’s Library Desk!  Ages birth – 10 years welcome for all events and reading contest!  Ends July 27th.

Teen Summer Reading Program: “Beneath the Surface”: Register at the Reference Desk!  Ages 10 and up welcome for all events and reading contest!  Runs from June 1st to July 27th.

Chuck E Cheese:

Go here to print off a form to track your reading.  Read a book everyday for two weeks and turn in the form to receive 10 free tokens!  Expires on December 31, 2013.  Food purchase is required.

iVillage Summer Reading Sweepstakes:

Go here and register for the Sweepstakes and starting on June 17th, you’ll get daily emails with literacy-building tips and activities from experts at PBS KIDS and Scholastic.

Knox County Public Library:

Children: Readers read for 20 hours. Listeners (for those not quite reading yet) listen to 40 books being read to them. Keep track of your reading as you go. At the end, you get a prize pack worth more than $200 of fantastic fun!

 

Teens: It's easy! First register on the Teen Summer Reading Page of knoxlib.org, read 5 books, and then come collect your prize. Of course, reading alone is rewarding enough, but you'll earn a Rewards Book filled with more than $200 worth of sweets and treats. Plus, you'll be entered to win an e-reader!

 

Oak Ridge Public Library:

Register your child in the Oak Ridge Public Library’s Children’s Room beginning May 20th until June 29th.  Return your reading log by August 3rd to receive your prize pack.  Independent readers are asked to read at least 10 books to successfully complete the program.  Listeners are asked to listen to listen to or help read to 15 books to complete the program.  Beginning June 10th, there will be programs offered at the library on Mondays at 10:30 AM for toddlers and preschoolers and Tuesdays at 10:30 AM for school age kids.  Check here for the complete schedule or check the Macaroni Kid Knoxville schedule for the weekly calendar.

Scholastic:

Go here: http://www.scholastic.com/summer/ and help your child and other children around the world beat the world record of 95,859,491 minutes read during Summer 2012!  Also on the website, you will find helpful apps to track your children’s reading on the run!

Tennessee Smokies:

The 2013 Tennessee Smokies Summer Reading Program is for Smokies fans ages 12 and under.  There are five levels and for each level your child will read 10 chapters or books, or if they are not reading on their own, have 10 books read to them to move up to the next level.  Lots of prizes!  You MUST take your form to the Smokies Ballpark in Kodak…you are unable to mail the form in.
