Flying Dogs, A Giant Pool, and Lots of Happy Tail Wagging!

The Dog Daze II Festival in Farragut

By Shelley Lapham-Pastore, Macaroni Kid Knoxville August 14, 2019

Bring your favorite furry friend and your kids this weekend to the DOG DAZE II Festival at Village Green in Farragut! I love taking my dog Felix to this fun free Event every year to watch the regional canine aquatics competition of Dock Dogs International.

A few years ago after I adopted my sweet Lab/Blue Heeler puppy, I found out he is absolutely terrified of the water! My dreams of taking him kayaking on beautiful sunset tours at the Cove off Northshore quickly vanished. At the dog park he loves to run around and actually prefers to be in the lake area but will stand on the end of the dock and watch all the other dogs jump off at high flying speeds into the water or he perches himself like a mountain goat on the rocks and observes from a safe no water zone. I keep thinking one day he will want to join in the fun and maybe if I can just launch some bacon off the end of the dock it will be enough to motivate him! Until that time comes we will enjoy watching the other flying canines at the Dog Daze Competition! If you are thinking about going here is what you can look forward to.

The festivities start on Friday with a local dog “Pooch Plunge!” Local dog owners will have the opportunity to have their ‘puppy’ try a Dock-Dive! K9 Pet Services of East Tennessee has underwritten The Plunge activity which will allow non-competitors to try the DockDog experience free of charge. Between 4 and 7 pm, members of the Smoky Mountain DockDogs Club will assist area pet lovers with their introduction to the sport. (Felix you hear that? It's your chance buddy!)

Actual competitions will start on Saturday at 11 am and final rounds of competition and award presentations will take place late Sunday afternoon.

Between qualifying rounds, spectators can shop the Village Green shopping center, visit the many merchant booths on-site, mingle with pet food suppliers, plus get food & drink at the beer garden while visiting many pet-related vendor booths, local merchant showcases, and displays.
