We are lucky in Knoxville to have so many great playgrounds and parks to explore. From swings to slides, to climbing walls and water features, Knoxville’s parks and playgrounds keep my kids active, are a great place to meet old friends (and make new friends!), and they're FREE!
I often get asked what our favorite playgrounds are, so I thought I'd share here with you my family's picks for our top five playgrounds and parks to visit in Knoxville.

What we love about Carl Cowan:
Carl Cowan is a quaint park overlooking the water featuring a playground and a splash pad. There are public restrooms along with covered pavilions where you can bring lunch or a snack and watch the boats come in. You could also use one of their many grills! Relax and take a seat on the swinging bench facing the water or enjoy a game of tennis, basketball or soccer. Take advantage of Knoxville’s hidden gem today!

Ijams Nature Center

What we love about Ijams Nature Center:
Ijams Nature Center is a beautiful, 315+ acre nature preserve close to downtown Knoxville. Hike the 10 miles of trails, seasonal paddling and swimming at Mead’s Quarry Lake, mountain biking, climbing and their natural playground. Ijams Nature Center is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast of any age! Located on site is Navitat, an outdoor, treetop zip line course overlooking the Tennessee River. Be sure to check out the gift shop and live animal exhibit inside the visitors center.

What we love about Lakeshore Park:
Lakeshore Park is a lovely, well maintained 185 acre park featuring 3 miles of walking trails, athletic fields and open fields. There is a playground that is perfect for little kids with a colorful, soft padded ground. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy views of the Tennessee River and Great Smoky Mountains. Definitely one of Knoxville’s finest parks!

What we love about McFee Park:
McFee Park boasts a large playground that is right beside one of Knoxville’s biggest splash pads. There are paved walking trails as well as athletic fields and public restrooms. Bring lunch or a snack and eat under one of their covered pavilions.
